Apex Grill

Apex GrillApex Grill is a Korean BBQ that features grill-your-own food. It opened last summer in the space formerly occupied by Dragon I.

While the restaurant also has a regular menu, the focus of this review is on the all-you-can-eat option ($34.99). You get to choose from a selection of meats (divided into beef, chicken, pork and seafood) and vegetables that you grill right on your table. If you’re a novice to grilling, you can check out the handy guide on the wall next to your table that tells you how long each item should be cooked. You also can ask the server for help if you really need it.

You can order your items through your server, but more likely, you’re going to use their website via a QR code to scan. I liked that it only took a few minutes to bring out the items–which makes sense, given that everything is raw. On that topic, you’re given a separate set of tongs for cooking so that you’re not using your fork or chopsticks to handle raw meat.

Along with the items you’re cooking, you also can get complimentary rice, lettuce, kimchi and various sauces.

Everything was delicious. I really enjoyed the bulgogi, as it was tender and flavorful. Same, too, for the spicy brisket, which went very well with the lettuce as a wrap. Next time, I plan to get the golbi short ribs.

Apex GrillI thought the cumin squid was unique, as the cumin gave the otherwise bland squid some flavor. Other seafood items include the garlic shrimp and the mussels.

I typically eat pork belly that’s braised, and this version was not, so it didn’t have much flavor. However, the pork belly was enhanced by the dipping sauces, especially the gochujang. I also had my eye on the teriyaki pork chop, but I didn’t have any room left.

For your information, the vegetable choices are mushrooms, zucchini, asparagus and pumpkin.

A few other notes: Because of all the marinades on some of the meats, your grill will start to have black spots all over, so your server will come by at some point to give you a new grill plate. Also, you are allowed 1.5 hours to complete your meal.

Apex Grill is open every day for lunch and dinner.
