Soul Grain is a granola that uses the vibrant spices and seasonings of the Black Diaspora, and I accepted an offer to try it.
The company was founded by a pastry chef and a nutritionist who focused on flavors that are commonly found in soul food dishes.
The granola ($4.65 for a 3.25-oz. bag, $13.95 for a 10-oz bag) is self-described as light and crispy, and I agree. The Neutral Nelly, which I considered the plain version, had a perfect amount of sweetness and was delicious by itself, right out of the bag.
The Spiced Paradise contained cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, cardamom and ginger, a combination that made for a wonderful and tasty blend of spices that jazzed up the granola. It paired nicely with Greek yogurt.
I also liked the Banana Pudding flavor. It had a wonderful aroma and reminded me of eating banana chips.
Coco Mango, Sweet Potato Casserole and Purple Grain Sweet Potato Casserole are the other variations.
Each one-third cup serving contains 130 calories, 7 g. of fat, 15 g. of carbs and 3 g. of protein.
You can purchase Soul Grain on its website and on Amazon.
