The KFC in Lake Delton (Wisconsin Dells) closed, and Rockin’ Chicken Shack emerged to provide a different version of chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, fried chicken and chicken wings.
Those chicken tenders are considered the house specialty and come in a three-piece serving ($6.99), as part of an 8-, 12- or 16-piece meal ($25.99-$42.99) or in a sandwich ($11.99). You also can order the tenders with Nashville Hot sauce.
I thought the chicken tenders were indeed tender on the inside and breaded well, but they didn’t have much seasoning or flavor. As a result, they are dependent on the accompanying Rockin’ Chicken Shack sauce, which was like a tangy Thousand Island.
The fried chicken ($9.99 for a two-piece combo, $12.99 for a four-piece combo) is tasty. Unlike the chicken tenders, the fried chicken is well seasoned to the point of being a little salty. Its crispiness level is between KFC original recipe and extra crispy.
Of note, I was warned that the fried chicken takes at least 15 min., and I waited about 20 at a time when there were no other customers.
The bone-in wings ($11.99 for eight) are breaded and meaty. I enjoyed them both naked and with the Rockin’ Chicken Shack sauce. You also have the option of boneless wings ($9.99 for 12).
The sides ($2.99) are the same as you would find at KFC: fries, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and cole slaw.
Rockin’ Chicken Shack is open daily for lunch and dinner.
