Since launching in 2022, Chipoys has won awards and expanded globally, and I was excited to accept an offer to try the rolled tortilla chips.
The company positions itself as a champion of authentic artisanal flavors and emphasizes quality ingredients. Of note, the fire red hot, chile limon and original flavors have OU Kosher and Halal certifications.
When you take your first bite, you notice how crunchy the chips are, and that’s because Chipoys use a unique rolled shape akin to a taquito. In fact, a way to describe these rolled chips is like eating a stack of tortilla chips at the same time.
Chipoys come in four flavors:
- The original reminded me of Fritos with less fried taste. It’s quite enjoyable on its own, but it also pairs well with nacho cheese sauce and salsa.
- The spicy ranch was my favorite. You get a blast of the tasty ranch on the first bite, and then after a few chews, you get the heat.
- In fact, I thought the spicy ranch was spicier than the fire red hot, which was tangy and had a resemblance to Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (that’s a good thing).
- The chile limon has the same chili seasoning as the fire red hot, but it also includes a wonderful hint of lime with each bite.
A 1-oz. serving has 160 calories, 8 g. of fat, 15 g. of carbs and 2g. of protein, and each bag has about 2-4 servings.
In Madison, you can purchase Chipoys at Menard’s.
