Bevy

BevyBevy is a brewery, cidery and winery in Wisconsin Dells in the space previously occupied by Port Huron. Its taproom opened in the spring and features self-serving taps of beer, cider and wine.

Like other self-serve bars, you trade in your credit for a special tap card. You then scan the card on the reader in front of a set of taps, and you are charged per ounce. The benefit of this system is that you can sample a bunch of drinks without committing to a full glass.

The key difference is that Bevy makes its own products, though you will find a few other brands. Many of the beers, cider and wine were just okay, certainly not as good as other producers, especially other ones in the area.

BevyThe Punch Out Pils (45 cents per ounce) is a safe choice, a nice everyday Czech pilsner. It did have a slight spice to it. I also liked the SuperBlonde (60 cents per ounce), which has 3X the honey to give it a touch of sweetness.

Other beers include Kong’s Garage Band (65 cents per ounce) imperial stout, Coffee Lodge (50 cents per ounce) brown ale and Cold Conspiracy (50 cents per ounce) IPA, and I wouldn’t get any of them again.

I had a similar distaste for the wines, including the Devil’s Rock Semi-Dry Wisconsin Rosé ($1.10 per ounce). I didn’t try any mead, but the Dabinett Premium Cider (65 cents per ounce) was good and not too sweet.

Despite my feelings for the beverages here, Bevy is still a nice place to hang out with friends indoors or outdoors, if you don’t mind going a few minutes out of downtown Dells.

Bevy’s taproom is open Tuesday through Sunday.
