The District

The DistrictThe District is a unique outdoor venue in downtown Wisconsin Dells. It’s a place to grab a bite or a drink, hang out, listen to live music and enjoy the view of the river.

About the eating part: food is only served during the summer season. I’ve visited right after Labor Day  (all restaurants closed for the season) and during Memorial Day weekend (only one restaurant open), but at least the bar is always available.

The food is available under the categories (I don’t want to classify them as separate restaurants) of Strange Burger, Hot Chicken Affliction and Day of the ‘Dilla, and you order from one of two kiosks inside. All items were priced on the high side.

The DistrictThe burgers were good but nothing memorable. The Strange ($15.99) was just a burger with lettuce, tomato, onion and a tangy mayo “Strange sauce.” Meanwhile, the Wisco Whacko ($15.99) was just a burger with American cheese, onion and garlic cheese curds, which was the primary thing you tasted.

I did also get a separate order of the garlic cheese curds ($9.99), which were very potent.

The freaky fries ($10.99) consist of crinkle-cut fries buried in toppings. While I enjoyed the combination of sour cream, green onions and bacon bits, I think nacho cheese would have been a better fit than the sour cream.

The Cluk fingers ($13.99 for four, $11.99 for two) have a unique breading that’s more of a coating. It was well-seasoned, and I liked it despite its odd texture. Those tenders also are featured in a sandwich called the Cluk Cluk ($12.99). The soft, toasted brioche with a mayo-ketchup “Cluk sauce” and crunchy pickles make for a satisfying sandwich.

The DistrictFrom the list of quesadillas, I settled on the Pizza ‘Dilla ($14.99), which despite using a tortilla for a crust, tasted exactly like a normal pizza–an average one at that–with sausage and pepperoni. The other ‘Dilla creations are the Beef Birria ($14.99), Pork Carnitas ($14.99) and Gringo ($9.99).

Supposedly desserts are available under the banner of Voodoo Creamery, but I have never seen it open.

The District is open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday and dinner Wednesday through Monday.
