Ollie’s

Ollie'sOllie’s does a good job of catering to the masses as a casual restaurant in Fitchburg serving American cuisine. That’s especially compared to the establishment it replaced, the more focused and higher-end cajun/creole restaurant Liliana’s.

A glance at the menu confirms this, with sections devoted to mac & cheese, smash burgers and deep dish pizzas. Every item is labeled whether it’s gluten-free, gluten-free option, vegetarian, vegetarian-option, vegan and/or vegan option.

I started one of my meals with the Supper Club platter ($18), which had a beautiful presentation. I have to say that I really liked the whole grain mustard, summer sausage, spicy olives, aged cheddar and the deviled egg … so basically everything on the board.

You can find six variations of mac & cheese on the menu, including Buffalo chicken ($15) and bacon truffle ($20). Make sure to try the awesome BBQ pork mac ($16). Some incredibly good pulled pork brought savoriness to the creamy mac, which is made with a blend of cheeses and Sassy Cow cream.

Ollie'sAmong the burgers, I enjoyed the 2ABPSSLCPOOASSB ($18). It is an excellent mimic of a Big Mac, minus the middle-level bun and with the addition of sliced onions. It’s worth adding a side of fries ($3), as they tasted like Wendy’s fries.

The Poppin’ burger ($13) also was good. You don’t often encounter pickled jalapenos and cream cheese as toppings, and they worked well with the bacon and red onions.

Chef Dave did a job of replicating Detroit-style pizza. Each ($16) is cut into six squares and made with Hook’s three-year cheddar, Farmer John’s Provonello, Carr Valley Fontina, Sartori SarVecchio, Roth Butterkäse and mozzarella. If you can imagine it, The Dad Joke has even more cheese on it, making for a pretty thick pizza.

I liked the Full of It, which had an even distribution of green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, black olives, pepperoni and giant pieces of sausage. I also had considered the Greek Out, which is a gyro pizza.

Speaking of gyros, there is one ($15) on the menu, and it was just okay. The texture of the lamb wasn’t as tender as I would like, and I would have preferred more tzatziki sauce instead of feta cheese on top.

Ollie’s has a bar, too, with fabulous craft cocktails. The Cajun margarita ($10) is a nice take on a margarita with a strong green chile flavor. Meanwhile, the Whiskey at Suppertime ($10) tastes like a sweeter version of a sidecar.

Ollie’s is open for dinner Tuesday-Saturday.
