How intriguing does CBD-infused, dealcoholized wine sound? It’s created by 66° Beverage Company, and I accepted an offer to try some.
The wine ($8.99) is served in 250 ml cans and is meant to be chilled slightly. It contains 25 mg. of broad spectrum Cannabidiol (CBD) that was formulated to take effect within 10-20 min. of consumption.
Besides avoiding hangovers, the removal of alcohol also means the wine has fewer calories (50) and carbs (12 g.). Fortunately, it doesn’t mean a reduction in flavor, as 66° uses its own technology for de-alcoholization instead of using the traditional boiling method, which also kills the flavors.
Here’s a look at the current lineup:
- I liked the rose a lot, especially for its strawberry notes. I also thought this drink was refreshing, which seems like a unique thing to say about wine.
- The white wine was nice. It has a wonderful aroma with a profile leaning toward pear. It’s also not dry.
- The red wine most resembled its alcoholic counterpart. I enjoyed the hints of black cherry.
In each case, I couldn’t detect any grassy or earthy flavor from the CBD, allowing the wine’s flavors to shine on their own. I also didn’t feel any positive or negative effects.
Of note, the global cannabis beverages market is projected to grow from $915.06 million in 2021 to $19,063.58 million in 2028, according to Fortune.
You can purchase 66° Beverage Company’s CBD-infused, dealcoholized wine from its website, though the shipping feature is currently not functioning. I asked company representatives to what states they ship, but I have not received a response.
