Downtown Wisconsin Dells has been undergoing a transformation with the construction of new outdoor plazas. A former historic house that previously held a retail store is now the home of Latte Stone Brewing Co., which features food from Guam.
I tried nearly everything on the menu and enjoyed it all. Many of the dishes are meant to be shared. For example, you get four Chamorro shrimp patties in an order. They are packed with carrots, peas, greens beans and corn, but the shrimp is the star. These fritters are tasty on their own and even better with the Sriracha mayo.
I also would classify the loompia as fried goodness. These crispy eggrolls are filled with pork, ground beef, carrots and cabbage, and they come with a delicious apple mustard sauce that provided a sweet contrast.
If you’re looking for comfort food, make sure to get the fried rice bowl. It’s a delicious mix of bacon, ham, smoked sausage, onions and scrambled egg. You also can add more sausage, more egg or even Spam.
One last item was the skewers. In my three skewer combo, I elected for the grilled chicken, which was juicy and had a perfect char; the pork, which was super flavorful from the Chamorro soy sauce vinegar marinade; and the steak, which was peppery and tender.
As for the beers, I was disappointed that on my visit, only the Coco’s Island Kolsch ($8) was available. I loved it–I thought it was refreshing and a very good kolsch. However, I also would have liked to have tried the Shaka IPA and the Two Lovers Point Belgian Witbier.
Latte Stone Brewing Co. is open for lunch and dinner on Sundays and Wednesday through Saturday.
