Ever eaten watermelon seeds as a snack? I hadn’t, but I was definitely interested in trying them in accepting an offer to review energy bites from Força Foods.
These energy bites ($19.96 for a pack of four pouches) are organic, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free, preservative-free, vegan and free from major allergens. Their only downside is that they’re manufactured in a facility that processes milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, sesame and wheat.
Amazingly, the bites are made from just five ingredients: watermelon seeds, dates, oats, maple syrup and either strawberries, bananas or coffee. A serving of four bites has 120 calories, 13-14 g. of carbs and 4 g. of protein.
I liked that despite all the ingredients packed together, the bites weren’t overly dense. They’re chewy with a slight crunch from the oats and seeds, but I never felt like I was eating straight-up watermelon seeds (a good thing).
- For the strawberry flavor, I tasted the dates first, but they had a delightful berry twist.
- Similarly, the banana version had a subtle but enjoyable banana flavor.
- The one with coffee packed a wonderful coffee punch in each bite.
More on the watermelon seeds. According to the Força Foods website, watermelon seeds use 78 times less water to grow than almonds. Compared to other on-the-go snacks, Força Foods saves 2.8 gallons of water per pouch compared to almond-based protein bars. The company also makes nut-free trail mix, which saves 9.3 gallons of water per pouch compared to traditional trail mixes.
