Just a few blocks from the main strip in downtown Wisconsin Dells is where you’ll find the VUE Waterfront Dining & Bar, located in the hotel of the same name.
The dining room is arranged to maximize the beautiful view of the Wisconsin River. In fact, some of the tables have all the seats in a row facing the water. There’s also a big bar at the entrance that looks like a great place for happy hour on a sunny day.
The menu is interesting in that it includes a wide mix of items, including miso ramen, fried chicken and mushroom risotto. I started with an appetizer of cheese curds ($11), which were gooey, a bit salty and overall an excellent way to start the meal.
Clam chowder ($5) is the soup of the day on Fridays. It was creamy and delicious, though I would have liked more clam. Also on Friday is the fish fry, which includes beer-battered cod and broiled cod. I got the herb-crusted broiled cod ($16), which was buttery and well seasoned but not very flaky.
Another seafood item was the tempura-fried shrimp ($24) plate, which comes with six shrimp and parmesan risotto. Both components were bland, and the dish screamed for some kind of sauce.
On the other hand, the garlic rosemary-crusted lamb chops ($36) were a flavorful hit. The tender lamb comes with a cognac Dijon cream sauce that complemented the lamb very well.
I also enjoyed the Vue double cheeseburger ($16). The tasty patties are situated between a buttery brioche bun and stacked with a ton of red onion and a homemade fancy sauce, which was a little difficult to discern among all the other flavors.
If you like cocktails, you’ll find a nice assortment on the menu, including a variety of Old Fashioneds, a Manhattan and a Door County Mule.
The VUE Waterfront Dining & Bar serves dinner daily, breakfast on weekends and lunch on Saturdays.
