Stadium Takeout brings a nice assortment of traditional and unique sandwiches to the block just south of Camp Randall Stadium.
It’s not clear on the menu, but you can get the sandwiches dipped, wet, dry or with au jus on the side. I didn’t make a choice with the spicy chicken po boy ($9.99), so it was made wet (completely submerged in au jus). This makes the sandwich delicious but super messy.
In fact, the sandwich was dripping through the inner wrapping, the outer wrapping and the carryout bag. I needed like four napkins to get through it. I have to say, the French roll is really enjoyable, as it sops up the flavor of the au jus. Despite the overcooked pieces of chicken breast, it’s a good sandwich overall.
I also ordered the Donfather ($11.99), which comes with a generous portion of Italian beef, plus mozzarella and provolone inside Stella’s spicy cheese bread. This time, I ordered the au jus on the side. The beef is tender, and it pairs nicely with the bread, which interestingly tasted more sweet than spicy.
Other sandwiches and burgers include a Stadium buffalo chicken sandwich ($10.99) and a Deep South burger ($9.99) topped with onion rings and BBQ sauce.
The menu sports six different hot dogs and three different polish sausages. I got the Stadium hot dog ($4.49), which was overloaded with toppings. For example, you’re eating more bacon than hot dog, as the hot dog is wrapped in bacon and topped with an enormous amount of bacon crumbles. Plus, having shredded cheese alongside nacho cheese sauce was overkill. The hot dog itself was tasty, but I wouldn’t order this concoction again.
Speaking of nacho cheese, it’s joined by shredded cheese once again, along with chili and sour cream on the chili cheese fries ($5.49). Although I would have preferred that the chili didn’t come with beans, I still wolfed down the platter.
Other appetizers include wings and pizza puffs.
Stadium Takeout has just a handful of seats, so as the name implies, you’re likely going to order to go. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner.
