I had never heard of fungi medicine until receiving (and accepting) an offer to some products in this category from Forage Hyperfoods.
The company’s mission is to make holistic and preventative medicine more accessible to more people. It does this through educating the public on chaga, which is a fungus that grows on birch trees.
Forage Hyperfoods sells chaga in powder, nuggets and chunks, and it’s apparently used for helping with immunity, digestive health, stress management and enhanced cognitive abilities.
I tried chaga in a mushroom coffee blend called Out of the Woods (12 oz. bag for $19.95). When you open the bag, it smells like any other coffee, though you can see the small pieces of chaga. However, at no time did I ever think I was drinking mushrooms.
Instead, Out of the Woods is a rich and enjoyable medium-dark roast coffee that you would never know had chaga in it unless someone told you. It has an earthy and nutty taste with a slight sweetness to it.
The other product that Forage Hyperfoods sells is tinctures (118 ml jars for $54.95). You fill the included dropper with 2 ml of the liquid and add it to any beverage for a variety of benefits. I tried the chaga tincture–which supports immune functioning, among other benefits–and the reishi tincture–which promotes balanced hormones, among other benefits. Unless you consume the tinctures with water, you won’t really notice their slight earthy flavor. I found myself adding drops to many beverages, including coffee, with little to no discernible alteration in taste, which was nice.
You can buy Forage Hyperfoods products on its website.
