Delicacies of Asia

PorkDelicacies of Asia opened on State Street this fall and features a wide swath of menu items, including a seafood boil, ramen and bao.

I did try some of the xiao long bao, which comes in beef, pork, shrimp and vegetable. Based on their size, you can eat them in about four bites. The bun was soft and spongy. Unfortunately, the beef ($10.95 for eight) inside was tiny, about the size of a bite’s worth without much flavor.

The mushroom chicken handmade dumplings ($9.95 for 10), on the other hand, had plenty of filling. But the chicken, like the beef, is fairly bland. In fact, the only flavor you taste is the ginger inside.

noodle soupAmong the rice platters, I ordered the Taiwan-style pork ($11.95). The cubed pork belly was tender and well-flavored from the sauce, which had a slight hint of vinegar. I also liked that the rice soaks up the sauce. Curry rice and fried rice dishes comprise the other choices.

You can select from a combined 15 ramen and noodle soup dishes. I opted for the oxtail noodle soup ($10.95). The oxtail was tasty, cut into smaller bony pieces instead of a few larger pieces, which I appreciated. The bone broth was light in flavor, which thus made the hand-pulled noodles light in flavor. A little salt went a long way in helping the soup.

If you’re looking for common dishes like sweet & sour chicken and shrimp lo mein, you’ll find them in the Chef’s Specials section of the menu.

Delicacies of Asia is open for lunch and dinner every day.
