Beef jerky and beef sticks are in my rotation of snacks at work, so I was happy to accept an invitation to try Apex Protein Snacks.
The focus of the Missouri-based company was to create minimally processed, highly nutritious meat snacks. The backcountry meat sticks (12 for $29.99) are made with wild game, have 90-105 calories, have 9-11 g. of protein, have 0 g. of sugar, are gluten-free and are Keto-friendly. They also have less than half the ingredients of most snack sticks, according to the Apex website.
Besides original (venison), the sticks come in Kansas City Barbecue (beef), jalapeno and cheese (boar), teriyaki (bison) and jalapeno (elk) flavors. I loved the Kansas City Barbecue. It was smoky with a slight sweetness. The stick had a good snap, and it wasn’t tough to chew. There is a marked difference between Apex and its competitors, and I look forward to trying the other flavors.
Of note, Apex donates a portion of each portion to Kids in the Outdoors, which helps underprivileged kids under the age of 16 find their way into the Great Outdoors.
Apex Protein Snacks also are available as bars, bites and biltong (dried). You can purchase them on the Apex website.
