It’s possible you may have overlooked Fairchild, which opened in March 2020 on Monroe Street. The quaint restaurant features a small but well-crafted menu that changes periodically.
Take for example the grilled pork loin ($29), which since I ordered it has been replaced by a pork cutlet. That’s too bad because I loved the pork loin, which was juicy and tender. It sports an awesome grilled flavor, which carries over to the accompanying bok choy and polenta, so it feels like you’re eating more of the pork loin.
I also enjoyed the now-replaced pappardelle ($25). The noodles were perfectly cooked and topped with delicious pieces of sausage and sliced plums. Currently on the pasta section of the menu you’ll find casaracce, ravioli and mezzaluna.
Another entree I tried was the red snapper ($32), which replaced a monkfish that had been on the menu. The flaky red snapper was tasty enough that it would stand up on its own, but it was further enhanced with the curry-like sauce that came with the fish.
If it’s still on the menu, make sure to order the La Belle Farms foie gras ($24). It is so good, with a perfect texture and flavor (e.g. not too rich). The foie gras is cleverly paired with a contrastingly sweet Moonglow pear.
One of the snack items I tried was the Yang’s Sustainable Farms fried okra ($6). The corn meal-battered okra was pretty plain, but I really liked the dipping sauce, which had a wonderful hint of spice.
Fairchild is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday.
