Lake City Social opened this summer in Lake Delton in the space that held Sprecher’s. It also has a sister restaurant in Lake Geneva.
The menu is exactly what you would expect for an American restaurant in a resort town: burgers, sandwiches and entrees (called “Social Specialties” here). Thus, you can’t really go wrong with any item you choose, but you won’t be blown away, either.
One of the specialties is the crab-crusted salmon ($21). It is not a pretty sight, but underneath the blue crab, you’ll find salmon that is tender and flaky. The ensemble is coated with a lobster sauce that is thicker and less salty than a typical version.
Among the burgers, the Wake Up Call ($13.99) sounded promising, as it’s topped with cheese, bacon and an egg inside two hash-brown waffles. However, I was disappointed our server didn’t warn us that the restaurant was out of waffles, so the sandwich came on buns along with tater tots. At least the burger was good.
From the sandwich section, I ordered the Nashville hot chicken ($13.99), which had both a sweetness and a slow-burning kick to it. The sauce wasn’t smoky for Nashville hot, but I still liked it. The chicken itself was crispy and delicious.
Other sandwiches include the prime rib sandwich and the turkey BLT.
The appetizer list has some surprises with the crab-stuffed mushrooms ($12.99) and the ahi tuna poke ($12.99). I went with the traditional cheese curds ($9.99), which were okay. I didn’t like the breading because of their weird-beer flavor and because they were not as crispy as they could be. (The accompanying Social Sauce is awesome, though.)
Meanwhile, the corn chowder ($4.99) is creamy and hearty. The added slices of Nueske’s smoked bratwurst was a nice touch.
Lake City Social also has specialty cocktails. I enjoyed the Daley Honey ($7) both for its name and its taste (it’s made with Jim Beam Honey). I also liked the Orange Blossom ($7.50), as the Absolut Mandarin, orange curacao, orange juice and Sprite made for a refreshing version of a screwdriver.
Lake City Social is open every day for lunch and dinner.
