Leinenkugel’s Collaboration Lager

Collaboration LagerJust in time for Oktoberfest celebrations, Leinenkugel’s rolled out a Collaboration Lager on Sept. 1, and I accepted an offer to try it.

The beer is brewed in partnership with Hofbräu München, a Munich brewery whose beers you may have had at the Essen Haus here in town or the Old German Beer Hall in Milwaukee. If you recall, the two breweries also partnered in 2017 to create Anniversary Lager.

The recipe for Collaboration Lager (ABV: 5.4% IBU: 26) is similar to the Anniversary Lager’s but with a few tweaks. It uses Mt. Hood, Centennial, Steiner Experimental Hop and Mosaic hops to make it more “hop forward” than traditional German beers.

I love lagers, so it was no surprise that I really enjoyed the Collaboration Lager. It’s flavorful with a hint of caramel and spice.

“Collaboration Lager uses German malts and all-American hops to give it a really nice, balanced characteristic with just a little bit of hop that shines through the beer at the end,” Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co. Dick Leinenkugel said in a blog post. “It’s got that great Märzen-style color.”

If you want to try Leinenkugel’s Collaboration Lager, you have to get it now, as it’s only available through October.
