True Scoops

True ScoopsWe’ve had a blistering hot start to the summer season, so what better way to cool off than with DIY ice cream from True Scoops, which I accepted an offer to review.

The concept is simple. Take the True Scoops powder, mix it with half-and-half, freeze it in an ice cube tray, blend the cubes with more half-and-half and then freeze the mixture again until firm. The instructions recommend three hours for the final freeze, but I recommend a little longer, as at the three-hour mark the ice cream was closer to soft-serve in terms of firmness.

Based on the look, texture and most importantly, taste, you would not have realized that the ice cream was homemade. I absolutely loved the vanilla ice cream, which had the perfect amount of sweetness. Too many times, vanilla ice cream is overly bland, but this one was was anything but.

Still, I did top my ice cream with True Scoops’ hot fudge sauce mix ($6.95). It is decadent and so good that I ate a spoonful of it straight up. The company also makes salted butterscotch sauce mix ($6.95) and sprinkles ($6.95).

True Scoops comes in vanilla and chocolate ($12.95 per package). Each package makes about six servings, with each serving having 110 calories, 4.5 g. fat, 14 g. carbs and 3 g. protein. Of note, the ice cream is peanut-free, egg-free, corn syrup-free, gluten-free certified and Kosher Certified Dairy.

True Scoops was founded during the pandemic, inspired by many people cooking at home. The ice cream will be available nationally in July, and you can pre-order on its website.
