Kombucha Town, Live Seltzer

Kombucha

Kombucha and seltzer have exploded in popularity. The market size of the former is expected to grow to $10.45 billion by 2027, and the market size of the latter (sparkling water) is expected to grow to $76.95 billion by 2028.

With that in mind, I was happy to accept an invitation to try Kombucha Town and Live Seltzer, both from the company named Kombucha Town.

Kombucha Town ($25.99 for six) is served in 16 oz. cans and is brewed in Bellingham, Wash., with many of the fair-trade certified, Non-GMO ingredients from the area. It uses the healthiest kombucha cultures from every batch.

Here are the seven flavors:

  • The Cascadian is light, especially for a kombucha, with a pear-like flavor. It uses hops from Yakima Valley, Wash.
  • It’s hard to detect either the lavender or the sage in the Lavender version,  which means you’ll mostly taste the natural kombucha flavor straight-up, and this may take a little getting-used to for new kombucha drinkers.
  • The Blueberry White has a light touch of blueberry flavor. In other words, it’s true to its “mellow” description.
  • Surprisingly, the Green Jasmine reminded me of the Lavender, with a touch of floral to it. The green jasmine tea hails from China.
  • The flavor of the Blood Orange is true to its name. I liked the zestiness, and this may have been my favorite.
  • Since I don’t like ginger, I was worried about the Original Ginger, but I truly enjoyed it. This one reminded me of a ginger ale-like kombucha. The ginger comes from Peru.
  • I didn’t try the Guayusa Mint, which uses mint from Ecuador and black tea from Bangladesh.

Live Seltzer ($29.99 for 12) is the first shelf-stable beverage with living probiotics. It’s USDA organic, non-GMO and fair-trade certified.

According to a release, Kombucha Town Found Chris McCoy created Live Seltzer with a proprietary brewing method known as Biome Aid. It is made with raw kombucha cultures and the cold waters of the North Cascade mountains.

Live Seltzer comes in three flavors:

  • I loved the Grapefruit Clarity. It’s super refreshing, not at all tart and has just the right amount of citrus flavor.
  • The flavor in the Cucumber Focus is quite strong, so much so that I didn’t even think I was drinking a seltzer. In fact, it reminded me of a beverage you get after a massage at a spa.
  • Similar to the kombucha version, Ginger Energy reminded me of unsweetened ginger ale. I found myself liking it more and more with every sip.

You can purchase Kombucha Town products online and at select Whole Foods and Kroger stores.
