I can’t wait to dine at Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar on State Street someday in the near future and sip one of its many margaritas or cocktails. Until then, I’ll just keep enjoying the menu items via delivery.
Here, you’re going to find traditional and Bad Ass tacos, the latter of which elevate tacos to another level. Take for example the chicken tikka taco ($4.50). What a great idea to bring the flavors of India into a taco. The breaded chicken was tender inside and slightly crispy on the outside. Meanwhile, the creamy masala sauce defines the flavor profile of this taco, while the cilantro-lime white rice absorbs all of it.
Next, I tried a sandwich as a taco–namely, the Philly ($4.75). It sports big, tender chunks of carne asada, smothered in ooey-gooey queso along with grilled peppers and onions. Impressively good.
I also loved the Caribbean taco ($4.50), which has a ton of juicy, flavorful carnitas. It definitely has the Caribbean taste from the jerk sauce without going overboard. The mango salsa adds a welcome brightness. The other taco I had in my sights was the crispy fish taco ($4.50), described as having battered and fried grouper with ancho chile, but I received a late notification that the item was removed from my order. And of course, neither the restaurant nor GrubHub contacted me about replacing it.
Luchador also serves Lucha-Bowls, which have a bed of cilantro-lime rice or lettuce, black beans, pico, avocado, cheese and salsa along with your choice of meat. I found the Chorizo bowl ($9.50) to be quite filling, definitely enough for a meal or two. You get plenty of well-seasoned chorizo. The salsa was a little sweet but otherwise doesn’t add much to the already flavorful dish.
By the way, you can get more of that delicious chorizo in the chorizo dirty rice ($3). It’s a nice, simple side dish that I really liked. Appetizers include ceviche ($10) and garlic shrimp skewers ($9).
Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar is open every day for lunch and dinner.
