New pizzas at Uno Pizzeria & Grill

In celebration of National Pizza Month, Uno Pizzeria & Grill is “buying” votes in a pizza election, and I accepted an offer to participate.

Here’s how it works. Go to unos.com/pizzavote to vote on one of the six new flavors of pizza. The one with the most votes on Nov. 3 will be added to the menu beginning in January. After you vote, you’ll receive via email an offer for a free pizza with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.

The six choices are:

  • Bianco Love Thin Crust: a white pizza with ricotta, aged cheddar, mozzarella, romano, extra virgin olive oil and seasoned garlic.
  • Spinach, Goat Cheese & Caramelized Onions Deep Dish: fresh spinach, caramelized onions and creamy goat cheese with housemade pizza sauce, freshly-shredded mozzarella, aged cheddar and romano.
  • Bruschetta-Roni Thin Crust: Provolone, pepperoni and seasoned diced tomatoes with a drizzle of seasoned extra virgin olive oil and fresh basil.
  • Rattlesnake Deep Dish: Inspired by Uno’s famous rattlesnake pasta featuring spicy asiago cream sauce, chicken breast, a blend of cheeses, jalapeno slices and a drizzle of buffalo sauce.
  • Cheese & Hot Oil Thin Crust: Three-cheese and tomato pizza kicked up a notch with a drizzle of red pepper and garlic olive oil.
  • Mac & Cheese Deep Dish: The signature Uno deep-dish crust filled with mac & cheese, mozzarella and cheddar.

20201017_165805The first pizza I tried was the Bruschetta-Roni. It resembles Margherita pizza, except with provolone instead of mozzarella plus the addition of pepperoni. Since there’s no sauce, you can really enjoy the freshness of the basil and tomatoes, and the drizzle of olive oil completes the flavor profile.

From simple we go to complex with the Rattlesnake, which has a lot going for it. Deep dish pizzas are filling enough as they are, but when you load it with chicken and a mountain of cheese, you’re going to feel pretty stuffed after two slices. Tack on jalapenos, Buffalo sauce and spicy asiago cream sauce (which wasn’t spicy at all), and each bite explodes with flavor.

Outside of the pizza, Uno has added deep dish meatballs to the appetizer menu. I’m glad they’re a permanent fixture, because I loved them. The three meatballs are huge, meaty (tender beef and pork) and well seasoned, plus they sit in some of the best marinara sauce I’ve had in recent memory.

Uno Pizzeria & Grill is open for lunch, dinner, carryout and curbside pickup every day.

Bianco Love, I have issues with red sauces, so I try any pizza with a white sauce. It has everything on it I enjoy.
