AYO Almond Milk Yogurt

ayo_pkg_strawberryI didn’t think we would see more innovation in the yogurt space, but lo and behold, we now have almond milk yogurt from AYO Yogurt. Thus, I was happy to accept an invitation to try it.

The yogurt is 100 percent plant-based (with non-GMO organic almonds), meaning it’s vegan, dairy-free, cholesterol-free and gluten-free. Each container has 150-160 calories, 10 g. fat, 19 g. carbs and 4 g. protein.

The founder of AYO Yogurt is Matt Billings, part of the Billings family that has run an almond farm in California’s San Joaquin Valley for four generations. Matt has made it his mission to provide the purest consumer yogurt to the shelves under the motto, “from farm to spoon.”

ayo_pkg_peachAYO comes in four flavors–vanilla, blueberry, strawberry and peach. I’m so used to Greek yogurt and its chunkiness that I was pleasantly surprised by how creamy AYO yogurt is. Open the container and it’s ready to eat–you don’t need to stir it. In fact, the light texture makes it versatile enough that you can use it as a fruit dip or in a smoothie.

The almond flavor is enjoyable and most prevalent in the blueberry version, but otherwise, you wouldn’t know the yogurt was made from almond milk. My favorite was the peach with its perfect amount of sweetness and diced peaches. If you’re a health-conscious shopper, you should definitely try AYO.

AYO retails for $1.99. Unfortunately, it isn’t available in any stores in Wisconsin, but the company appears to be increasing its geographic presence.
