D’Vino has some good things going for it, and I look forward to dining in some time and seeing the atmosphere of what used to be Opus.
The cuisine is Italian with a focus on sandwiches, pizza and dessert. Item availability often depends on the day of the week. For example, I love soft-shell crab, so I couldn’t wait to try the soft shell crab sandwich that’s available on Fridays. Overall, the flavor was there, enhanced by the citrus-caked aioli and the brioche bun. The legs were the best part, as the body was slightly under-breaded.
On Mondays, you’ll find the muffuletta ($12) and the meatball grinder ($12). Warning, the muffuletta, which is made with ricotta, Sopressata, capicola, mortadella, provolone and dressing, is a greasy but delicious sandwich–you will need a couple of napkins to get through it. The toasted roll with sesame seeds was a nice finishing touch.
Meanwhile, the meatball grinder featured tender, flavorful meatballs, plus just enough of nana’s red sauce so that the sandwich doesn’t fall apart. I like giardiniera so I added them, but in retrospect, I shouldn’t have because the crunchiness contrasted too much with this soft sandwich.
The only negative aspect I encountered had to do with size, not taste. I was extremely disappointed by the size of the Diavolo pizza ($12.99). Nowhere on the menu does it indicate it’s a personal-sized pizza (about 6″), and thus, this pizza was too expensive for its size. I did appreciate the heat level of the pizza from the spicy pepperoni and crushed red peppers, but I wouldn’t order it again. The other pizzas on the menu are Verdura ($11.99) and Margherita ($10.99), all available every day.
Among the many desserts was the tiramisu ($5.99), which was outstanding. With a strong coffee flavor, it was creamy and perfectly spongy. Other sweets include cannoli (four for $9) and Italian lemon ricotta cake ($5.99).
One last thing: D’Vino does have a sizeable appetizer (cicchetti) and wine list, from which I’ll order when I make the in-person visit.
D’Vino is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday.
