I liked the food at Fuegos, and I thought it would have been more successful if it was located anywhere other than its hard-to-park location on Willy Street. The owners have now opened Migrants, a taqueria located in the same development as Bonfyre.
A place that specializes in tacos should have great tacos, and that is what you’ll find at Migrants. Plus, there’s really not much else on the menu.
First, it’s worth noting that they make their own tortillas in-house. They’re sturdy enough that you only need one for your tacos instead of the standard two, yet they are soft and have a good chew.
For tacos, you can add your choice of toppings, including queso fresco, sliced radishes and vegan cheese, as well as various salsas, including mango habanero and ranchera. A three-pack of tacos ranges from $10-$13, and individual tacos are $2. Here are the ones I tried:
- The chicken was moist and carried the flavor from the chipotle seasoning, which seemed tomato-y.
- The shredded beef was juicy and tender from being perfectly roasted.
- Though not at all spicy, the spicy shredded pork was some of the best pork I’ve had in recent memory.
- I enjoyed the lamb, which had a strong flavor leaning more toward goat.
- The duck was dry, slightly tough and lacking in flavor.
If you don’t want meat, you’ll find quinoa and cauliflower among the vegetarian taco options. Breakfast items include a breakfast burrito, pancakes and huevos rancheros.
Migrants is open Monday through Saturday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
