Though the folks behind Working Draft Beer Company tout their love for IPAs, especially “West Coast” IPAs, they also have enough non-IPAs on tap to please everyone in your drinking party.
If you’ve been to a brewery with a taproom, then you’ll see that Working Draft follows the playbook for its setup, e.g. minimal decor, warehouse feel, live music on occasion, a few TVs for ambiance. The main difference is that Working Draft is in the middle of a neighborhood, so it has more of a living room vibe (but not appearance).
The tap list is updated frequently. Most of the beers are served in 10 oz. or 16 oz., though you can get smaller sizes; 32-oz. crowlers also are available.
- My first beer was the Stackenblochen (6.3% ABV, $5.50). It’s a smooth and caramel-y Oktoberfest, and it really grew on me.
- It’s All Elementary (6.6%, $6) is a citra IPA that definitely showcases wheat and citrus notes. I felt it did have a burst, but not a self-described explosion, of passion fruit and kiwi.
- The Hindsight (5.2%, $5.50) is crisp as a pilsner should be, and it also leans hoppy.
- The Va Beane (4.6 percent, $5.50) is predominantly coffee in flavor with a small amount of chocolate. Even for a blonde ale, it was too intense for me.
Working Draft Beer Company is open seven days a week. Note that the kitchen and taproom have slightly different hours.
