Located downtown, the Globe features cuisines from around the world. It offers more breadth than depth, but the Globe still produces some tasty fare.
The menu is divided by meal type rather than region. Small plates has items like samosa and dumplings. The bhajji ($5 small, $8 large) are deep-fried vegetable fritters that are crispy and have some chew. You primarily detect the masala flavor and the fried taste. They’re not too greasy and pair well with the accompanying tomato achar sauce.
You can get the Wai Wai ramen noodles ($9) in soup or fried, and I chose the latter. The ramen noodles are perfectly cooked and have a ton of flavor. I felt there were too many vegetables–such as the carrots and cabbage–that took away from this dish. Also, I didn’t receive any of the tomato or egg that was supposed to be included. At least the “mild” spicy level was indeed spicy.
You’ll find the American portion of the menu under sandwiches (e.g. ham sandwich, smoked turkey sandwich, etc.). I chose the spicy chicken pita ($7), which I absolutely devoured. The chicken is tender and flavorful from the tamarind sauce but only a little bit spicy (less so than the ramen). All the vegetables complement the overall taste. The pita is grilled and very tasty.
Mexican and Korean tacos ($10 for three with various meat choices) are on the menu, too. I enjoyed the latter version. You get plenty of pork, though it could have been more tender. The sauce is sweet but not too sweet.
One other menu section from which I ordered was rice and curry. The kimchi fried rice was tempting, but I settled on the Meat Daily Special Bento Box ($14.95). This dish originates from Nepal and features a delightful curry chicken, accompanied by white rice, naan, potatoes and chickpeas, plus assorted veggies. It’s very filling.
The Globe serves lunch Monday through Saturday and dinner Monday through Thursday.
