As a big fan of bourbon, I eagerly accepted an offer to try 1792 Aged Twelve Years.
Several years ago, I discovered 1792 at a store while on vacation. (The bourbon is named for the year Kentucky became a state.) It was mispriced at $20 (normally $25.99), so I bought it and ended up enjoying it so much, that I recommended it to friends.
The Aged Twelve Years version ($49.99) is 96.6 proof and combines slight spicy rye with a sweet, caramel flavor. You can easily enjoy it neat or on the rocks.
“The first thing that hits the palate is a subtle but rich sweetness,” Barton 1792 Distillery Master Distiller Danny Kahn said in a statement. “Each time I take it in, I find more and more beautiful interactions!”
I’ve always thought of 1792 as one of the best bourbons under $30. The 1792 Aged Twelve Years, which will be released at a rate of one batch per summer, is definitely worthy of a higher-end bourbon. In other words, buy it while you can.
Barton 1792 Distillery was established in 1879 and continues today as the oldest, fully operating distillery in Bardstown, Ky. High Rye, Sweet Wheat, Single Barrel, Port Finish, Full Proof and Bottled in Bond are its other limited releases.
