Bread Boules at Zoup!

img_20181121_115111602I’ve previously raved about the soups at Zoup!, and now you can get them three at a time in the new bread boules, which I was invited to try.

The point of this review is the bread boules ($7.95-$10.95), which are available until Dec. 30, but first here are my thoughts on my three soups:

  • The predominant flavor of the seafood etouffee is the crawfish (a good thing), complemented by the tasty Creole seasoning. It is not spicy as described.
  • The roadhouse sirloin chili is hearty and meaty, the way chili should be. It also comes with onions, carrots, celery, green chilies, tomatoes and garlic.
  • The chicken potpie may be my new favorite at Zoup! It’s creamy and rich, but not too rich, with ample, tender chicken and unique crumbles of pie crust.

The loaf of bread is huge, obviously big enough to hold three 4-oz. bowls of soup about 2″ in diameter and about 1.5″ deep. The bread itself is super dense, which helps it from getting soggy, and it has almost no flavor, to better take on the flavors of the soups. I liked that the crust was chewy, not rock solid.

So you get to enjoy the bread boule in two ways. First, you eat the soup, then you eat the soup-flavored bread. I felt bad to throw away about 25% of the bread, but it was just so much food.

For an additional $5.99, you can upgrade your loaf to an Italian bread boule that’s seasoned with olive oil and sea salt. Hopefully these bread boules are popular enough that Zoup! makes them a permanent fixture of the menu.
