I like tahini, so I didn’t hesitate in accepting an offer to try a TahiniBAR, which is exactly as the name implies: a bar made primarily out of tahini. Seems like a novel concept, does it not?
All three flavors–Cocoa Nibs, Pistachio and Vanilla–make for delicious treats. Each one is true to its namesake flavor while still complementing the sesame seed flavor. In the Cocoa Nibs, you’ll see small pieces of chocolate, and in the Pistachio you’ll obviously find bits of the nut.
Surprisingly, the texture isn’t dense; in fact, the small bars are crumbly, especially once you start biting in. They are sweet (from the added sugar) but not too sweet, fortunately.
Each bar has 100 calories and is gluten-free, vegan, certified OU Kosher and dairy-free. A box of seven costs about $9.99.
The TahiniBAR is a healthy and satisfying snack that aligns well with the gluten-free movement. In fact, the makers of TahiniBAR, Absolutely Gluten Free, has a product line that includes gluten-free flatbreads, crackers and cauliflower-crusted pizza.
According to UC-Berkeley Wellness, sesame seeds are a good source of iron, zinc, copper, vitamin E, thiamin, calcium, magnesium and manganese. TahiniBARs have 9 g. of carbs and 2 g. of protein.
You can find TahiniBARs in stores nationwide and on Amazon.com.
