As I paged through Tex-Mex Diabetes Cooking ($19.95, American Diabetes Association)–which I accepted an invitation to review–I got excited about trying the Tex-Mex recipes, which author Kelley Cleary Coffeen, PhD, altered to “cut the calorie count, fat content and carbohydrates while increasing the protein levels in a manner that is sensitive to people with diabetes.” I don’t have diabetes, but I do try to cut carbs (including sugar) and eat more protein. Sunday, August 19th, 2018Vegan junk food? That piqued my interest enough to accept an invitation to review The Dirty Vegan (Hatherleigh Press, $20.99 hardcover).
The author, Catherine Gill, has run the blog The Dirty Vegan since 2010, focusing on comfort food-style vegan recipes that are “fun, accessible and healthy.” According to a release, her goal is to make it easier than ever to live the vegan lifestyle with healthy vegan food that doesn’t skimp on taste (aka “vegan junk food”). Cook Your Marriage Happy
Friday, April 27th, 2018My curiosity was definitely piqued in accepting an offer to read Cook Your Marriage Happy ($14.95, CYH Press), which uses cooking to help diffuse negative emotions in relationships.
The author, Debra Borden, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York and New Jersey. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that she has a connection to Madison through her son, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, and that she fondly remembers State Street and the Dane County Farmers’ Market.
